Braunschweig, Germany
Dankwarderode Castle is one of Braunschweig’s most important historic landmarks, originally built in the 12th century as the residence of Henry the Lion. Reconstructed in a Romanesque Revival style, it stands beside Brunswick Cathedral in the city’s historic center. Today, it houses part of the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, where visitors can see medieval artifacts, including the famous Brunswick Lion. It is a worthwhile stop for travelers interested in regional history, medieval architecture, and the legacy of one of northern Germany’s most influential rulers.
