About Cattedrale di San Sabino

Cattedrale di San Sabino is Bari’s Romanesque heart, rebuilt in the 12th–13th centuries atop earlier ruins. Its clean limestone façade, rose window, and understated interior highlight Apulian Romanesque style. Inside, a crypt honors St. Sabinus, and archaeological areas reveal Roman and early Christian layers. Each June solstice, a light phenomenon aligns through the rose window onto the floor’s marble rosette. Centrally located in Bari Vecchia near the Basilica of St. Nicholas, the cathedral suits travelers interested in architecture, quiet reflection, and layered history without the crowds often found at more famous sites.
