About National Garden

Steps from Syntagma Square, the National Garden offers a calm, shady retreat in central Athens. Commissioned by Queen Amalia in the 19th century, it features winding paths, Mediterranean and exotic plants, small ponds, and remnants of ancient ruins. Highlights include the neoclassical Zappeion nearby, a modest botanical collection, a playground, and a small animal enclosure. Free to enter and open daily, it’s ideal for a leisurely stroll or family break between museum visits. Not a must for formal gardens or grand sights, but a pleasant pause from the city’s bustle.
