Byeongsan Seowon, in Andong, is one of South Korea’s best-preserved Confucian academies and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Set between the Nakdong River and low mountains, it is known for its elegant wooden halls, open pavilions, and tranquil setting. Founded in the 17th century to honor scholar-official Ryu Seong-ryong, it offers insight into Korea’s scholarly traditions as well as fine views of the surrounding landscape. It is a rewarding stop for visitors interested in history, architecture, and quieter cultural sites.
