De Gooyer Windmill is a striking 18th-century wooden windmill on Amsterdam’s eastern skyline, near the IJ. Once part of a ring of city mills, it’s the tallest wooden windmill in the Netherlands and a rare survivor of its kind. You can’t tour the interior, but its exterior is impressive, and the adjacent Brouwerij ’t IJ craft brewery in a former bathhouse adds a convenient stop for tastings. Easy to reach by bike or tram, it’s a quick, photogenic detour for architecture and history enthusiasts, best combined with a stroll along the nearby canals and waterfront.
