Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Holy Trinity Cathedral (Kidist Selassie) is Addis Ababa’s foremost Orthodox church and a key site for modern Ethiopian history. Built in the 1930s–40s, it houses the tombs of Emperor Haile Selassie and Empress Menen, memorials to victims of the Italian occupation, and striking stained glass and murals. Visitors can explore the ornate nave, imperial mausoleum, and a small museum with church treasures. The grounds also include notable sculptures and graves of national figures. It’s a compelling stop for those interested in Ethiopian faith, art, and 20th‑century history; dress modestly and expect a quiet, reverent atmosphere.
