About Hai Van Pass

Straddling the border of Đà Nẵng and Thừa Thiên Huế, the Hải Vân Pass is a 21 km mountain road known for sweeping coastal views and a dramatic ridgeline. Once a strategic frontier, it features remnants of French and American-era bunkers at its summit. The modern tunnel diverts heavy traffic, leaving the pass relatively quiet for motorists, cyclists, and photographers. Clear days offer vistas over Lăng Cô Bay and the East Sea; mist can reduce visibility but adds atmosphere. Allow 1–2 hours for the drive, with caution on curves and in wet conditions. Best visited in the morning.
